Dear Teachers,

Hang in there.  This won’t last forever.  In the meantime, here is what we have decided to do to help teachers and students who cannot access books in their classrooms right now.  Below is what we’re doing for you, and what we need from you.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
•Share our catalogue, don’t upload our books to websites, ask your school to buy readers, check out our New Teacher’s Guide courses.

SHARE OUR BOOK CATALOGUE AND POST IT (please, please!)
Please share our book catalogue link so that those who want to order books have an option other than Amazon and all of you can be part of saving small businesses.  Share with administrators.  Share with parents.  Share with your friends. Share with students.  Share with other teachers.  Post on social media.

DON’T POST OUR BOOKS ON-LINE
I, Karen Rowan, wrote El secreto de Isabela (Ebook), Isabela quiere un mono (Ebook) Las aventuras de Isabela, Isabela captura un congo, Carl no quiere ir a México, Don Quijote, el último caballero and El Callejón del beso in Spanish.  Most are also available in French. In the past 6 months we have found nearly 300 copyright violations.  Teachers told us “your books are online for free anyway.”  They are right.  It’s very difficult to stay in business in the best of times.  During Covid, as large businesses like Pier 1 and 24 Hour Fitness file for bankruptcy, imagine how small businesses are surviving.  We simply cannot stay in business if what we create isn’t purchased.  Please help us out by following copyright laws.  Basically, if you didn’t create it to begin with, you can’t reproduce it in any form at all.

WHAT WE’RE DOING FOR YOU:
•Teacher’s Guides that are courses, so you can teach the novel and have everything already done for you so your life is a tiny bit easier.  Student access is free with teacher purchase of TG and at least a class set of novels.

NEW TEACHER’S GUIDE COURSES

We are not doing an online FVR library.  We are helping teachers teach class novels by creating Teacher’s Guides with lots of support.  Teachers can use them synchronously.  For asynchronous classes, student optional access to the Ebooks is free with purchase of at least a class set of the readers and the teacher has the on-line Teacher’s Guide,  the teacher will receive a code to make optional access to Ebooks for students available.

Two  pre-readers for Las aventuras de Isabela and Isabela captura un congo FREE

These are downloadable and shareable on your school platform or with your own students.  You may not post on EdPuzzle or Teachers Pay Teachers or Youtube or any public website.  These pre-readers are designed to help teachers start right away with in-person or virtual teaching at level 1.  No copyrights are waived or granted.

If you have class sets of novels, but can’t access them, I will give you access to the books online that your students can read but not download as long as you have purchased the Teacher’s Guide.  When this ends, that electronic access will be turned off to the reader, but you will still have access to the Teacher’s Guide content.

If you don’t have class sets of novels, your district can purchase them through www.CPLI.net with a school credit card or Purchase Order (choose purchase order at check out and we will bill the school).  Class sets are $210-$240.00. Email [email protected]

No permission is granted to post anything electronically anywhere publicly.

You cannot post any audiobooks or readers in any format online on your school websites on EdPuzzle or on Teachers Pay Teachers.

You cannot record other people’s books in your own voice.

You cannot make photocopies of books.

You CAN read aloud to your own students, as long as it is not recorded.

You CAN create your own activities to use with any of these readers for use in your own classes.  If you would like to share those materials will other teachers, I will upload them to the same platform.  I will not charge more for them.  You cannot sell them.  If you would like to make another teacher’s life easier, I’m happy to add activities.

Thank you for understanding and respecting that while I am trying to do everything I can to help, so many of our colleagues have illegally posted my books on public and private websites that I will not grant anyone permission to violate copyright no matter the circumstances.  This is the best solution I can think of.  In exchange for this — free access for anyone who already has at least a class set — please let students and parents and administrators know that the best way to protect copyright and the best way to increase language acquisition is to read.  Please share our book catalogue link so that those who want to order books have an option other than Amazon and all of you can be part of saving small businesses.
